Our Rescue Work
-
Our non-profit arm, Meowtropolitan Foundation, began our new rescue program in 2024 after a change in management practices with our prior shelter partner. We rescue and find home for shelter cats with the help of an incredible network of foster families and volunteers.
We pull cats from our local shelters and provide them with a cage-free, enriching environment at the cat café while they wait to meet their forever families. The cat café allows the cats to learn more about them and show us their personalities which helps us match them with the suitable, furrever homes.
Meowtropolitan Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (EIN: 83-1847991) and you can make a tax-deductible donation to support our work.

We aim to help our local shelters keep their kennels empty, reduce the load on their capacity and provide medical and socialization help for the shelter kitties that need a little extra assistance.

Meowtropolitan Foundation is a nonprofit organization. All donations and adoption fees directly support the care of our lounge cats, including routine veterinary services, medications, emergency treatment, and essential health and care supplies.
Seattle Meowtropolitan operates as a self-sustaining, for-profit business. Revenue from cat lounge visits, special events, beverages, and most merchandise (unless otherwise noted) supports business operations and staffing.
While the Foundation’s long-term goal is to be fully funded through donations and adoption fees, Seattle Meowtropolitan currently provides financial support to the Foundation when these contributions do not fully cover expenses.

Fred & George
Fred & George are two orange tabby brothers who spent many years at Seattle Meowtropolitan. They made an impression on everyone who visited by jumping on the shoulders of those who walked past them. Because of an auto-immune disorder which we believed to be feline herpesvirus (FHV-1), they often sneezed into the hair of those they jumped on. It was their special way of saying hello!
They eventually grew a special bond with a large family of members that regularly visited the cafe. We decided we could not keep them separate from their humans any longer. They now live in luxury in their forever home and we remember their time with us fondly. You can find Fred & George featured on our Whole Bean Drip and Espresso roasts!
We hope to continue to curate stories like Fred & George’s by matching cats with special care requirement to their purrfect and loving forever homes. Interested in adopting a cat from us? You can learn more about our current adoptables here!
Django
Django was a well-loved brown tabby that ruled our feline kingdom before his untimely passing in August of 2024. He was one of our original permanent residents that had been at the Meowtropolitan since our opening in late 2015. He was a loveable, attention-seeking fellow with an unforgettable squinty face.
His health started to noticeably decline in early 2024. After a lot testing, we learned that he developed a cancerous tumor on his brain stem. In order to reduce his pain and hopefully save his life, he required a high-risk surgery to remove the tumor. While the surgery was a success, he unfortunately experienced a stroke on his brain stem a few weeks into recovery. The vet did everything they could to help him, but he let us know it was his time to go.
Django was the king of our cat lounge. We believe that he is still watching over his kingdom from the clouds. Without your donations, we would have struggled to afford the testing, medications, and surgery that significantly reduced his pain and extended his life. Thank you.
Fili
Fili is a curious and attention-loving brown tabby that blessed the lounge with his presence for about a year before before he was adopted in June 2025. He loved to greet everyone person that walked through the door and stare at them with his sad, old man-like eyes until they gave him the attention he deserved. He also loved to supervise any feline guardian doing paperwork by laying on top of whatever they were working on. He was very helpful in that way!
He came to us with a chipped upper canine that was at risk of infection. Dental infections can be very dangerous and potentially fatal if left unchecked by making it’s way into the brain. He needed surgery to remove the tooth which comes with a pretty hefty price tag. The surgery went smoothly and he quickly recovered without issue!
Donations to the Meowtropolitan Foundation helped pay for this notoriously expensive dental extraction. This also helped prevent the cost of the surgery from falling on his future adopter. He now goes by Mr. Feeny in his loving furr-ever home, single canine-toothed, and extremely spoiled!
Gravel
Gravel is a rambunctious little grey cat who stayed in our lounge for several months in 2025. When he wasn’t wrestling with the other cats, he was napping peacefully in someone’s lap. You’d almost believe he wasn’t a little ball of energy! Almost.
At 8 months old, he started having trouble breathing on his own and had to be rushed to the emergency vet. After some x-rays, they discovered that he had come down with pneumonia. Someone on staff stayed with him at the vet for most of the night and after his second day of treatment, he started to show signs of improvement. He spent the next few weeks in a foster home and had a smooth recovery.
Shortly after returning to the lounge, he was adopted by a regular at the cafe. We hear he is just as crazy as ever! Without rapid treatment, his life would have been at risk. Thanks to your donations and our awesome network of fosters, we were able to get him the critical treatment he needed and a calm environment to recover in.
